Our October speaker will be Shannon Boyd, a Microsoft Premier Field Engineer specialiizing in SharePoint on the Navy Marine Corps team. Shannon has been working with SharePoint through all its incarnations since 2003, and is looking forward to the new release.
The meeting will be on October 17th, 6:30 pm at Infotect in Va Beach Town Center.
Abstract:
The single biggest issue with establishing SharePoint as an intranet “one-source-of-truth” instead of a “one-path-to-truth” is integration with legacy applications and data. However, this does not have to be the case. Utilizing external lists and external content types, data sources can be made as easily accessible as any list in SharePoint, allowing read/write/delete activity just as if the user were using the legacy application.
For this talk, we will be creating an External List based on an External Content Type being fed from a SQL database with NONE of the data actually stored in the SharePoint Platform.
